Tommy Joe Martins had his first laps in an Alpha Prime racecar since Darlington May 7 during practice and qualifying at Texas Motor Speedway. Martins shook the rust off in the Market Rebellion Chevy landing the 44 car 29th in qualifying. The action started lap one, where a mistimed pass attempt spread out the field and caused damage early to a few mid-running cars. By the end of stage one, Martins had worked himself into the top25. Stage 2 became one of the wildest runs of the Xfinity Series season, with multiple big crashes taking out some of the top contenders. Martins was able to pick his way through two of the biggest crashes with only minimal damage, setting them up for a solid top15 run, ultimately finishing 14th. The 15 positions Martins gained was the second most of any car in the event.
